During a time when our nation needs to maximize its expertise in science and engineering, women are dropping out of science careers at all stages of the academic ladder, beginning in school, and up the ladder. Research and opinion has suggested everything from genetic differences, to institutional structures. Recently a panel was coordinated by the National Academy of Sciences to address the these issues, entitled Beyond Bias and Barriers: Fulfilling the Potential of Women in Academic Science and Engineering.
Come and join us for dinner and to:
1) Hear a summary of the NAS report presented by Cynthia Phelps, AWF President,
2) discuss current barriers to women and proposed solutions, and
3) give the AWF input on our survey about barriers to women faculty.
